Important dates
Eligibility criteria
12th (HSC) with Physics & Chemistry + Mathematics (PCM group) or Biology (PCB group); minimum 45% (40% for reserved categories). Maharashtra domicile gives access to the ~85% state quota; outside-state candidates compete for the ~15% open seats.
Exam pattern
Computer-based exam. PCM group has Maths plus Physics and Chemistry. PCB group has Biology plus Physics and Chemistry. Each paper gets 90 minutes. There is no negative marking, unlike JEE.
Syllabus overview
Based on the Maharashtra State Board Class 11 & 12 syllabus — roughly 20% weightage to Class 11, 80% to Class 12
Physics & Chemistry (HSC level) — common to both PCM and PCB groups
Mathematics (PCM group — for engineering/technology and most pharmacy seats)
Biology — Botany + Zoology (PCB group — for pharmacy, agriculture, allied)
Accepted colleges
Cutoff trends
COEP / VJTI Computer Science: 99.5+ percentile. PICT / SPIT CS: ~99 percentile. Strong private colleges (PCCOE, MIT-WPU, DJ Sanghvi): 95–98 percentile. Many tier-2/3 colleges fill seats in the 50–90 percentile band, so admission somewhere is realistic for most serious aspirants.
Preparation tip
1–2 years alongside Class 11–12; easier than JEE because it follows the State Board syllabus and has no negative marking of dedicated preparation is recommended. Start with the official syllabus and previous year papers.
