How do you get a B.Sc Agriculture seat for 2026–27?

There are two routes. The national one is CUET (ICAR-UG), conducted by NTA. ICAR says no agriculture bachelor’s seat is given through its counselling without a CUET (ICAR-UG) 2026 score. In 2026, forms opened on 3 January and the exam ran in May. ICAR counselling then fills 20% of seats in state agricultural universities and 100% of seats at IARI New Delhi, NDRI Karnal, IVRI Izatnagar, RLBCAU Jhansi and Dr RPCAU Pusa. You must be at least 16 on 31 August 2026.

In Maharashtra, the State CET Cell’s agriculture CAP offered 17,586 first-year seats for 2026–27 in 195 colleges, across nine degree faculties under four universities: MPKV Rahuri, Dr PDKV Akola, VNMKV Parbhani and Dr BSKKV Dapoli. The 2026–27 prospectus accepts an MHT-CET score from either the PCB or the PCM group, and also JEE Main or NEET-UG. Students without Biology (or Maths) in Class 12 must clear deficiency courses. Seats left after the last ICAR round return to the state CAP. CAP registration ran from 10 to 25 July 2026.

For 2027 entry, MHT-CET will have two attempts and the better score counts. An October 2026 report says both attempts will now be held after the Class 12 board exams, roughly March to May 2027. The timetable is not out yet. In 2026 the PCB group sat on 21–26 April and 10–11 May.

B.Sc Agriculture fees: state university vs private college

In Maharashtra the same four universities set the syllabus for government and private colleges, so the main difference is the fee. Private unaided colleges may not charge above the prescribed fee, but institutional-quota seats can be charged up to three times that fee (2026–27 prospectus).

Before paying a private college, ask for its own ICAR accreditation letter. ICAR’s PG entrance rules (from the 2022 cycle) say students of a private agriculture college need that college’s ICAR accreditation to sit the AIEEA-PG and JRF/SRF exams, even when the parent university is accredited.

What do B.Sc Agriculture jobs pay in 2026?

Government hiring is irregular. The 2023 Krushi Sevak drive had 2,109 posts. MPSC’s last Krishi Seva cycle had 258 agriculture posts (prelims 1 December 2024, mains 18 May 2025), and those selected were still awaiting postings in 2026. IBPS SO 2025 had 310 Agriculture Field Officer (AFO) posts out of 1,007. The 2026 notice listed 190 AFO posts out of 745 (indicative), with prelims on 29 August and mains on 1 November 2026. The AFO age limit was 20–30 years in the 2025 notice.

Who should not choose B.Sc Agriculture

  • You plan an ICAR-funded M.Sc or JRF later, but your only seat is at a private college without its own ICAR accreditation. ICAR’s PG entrance rules have shut such students out.
  • You took PCM and dislike biology. Maharashtra admits PCM students, but they must clear extra deficiency courses, and most of the degree is plant, soil and pest science.
  • Your family needs a steady salary soon after graduation. The Krushi Sevak entry post paid a fixed ₹16,000 a month in 2023, and the 2024 MPSC officer batch was still awaiting postings in 2026.
  • You will graduate close to 30 and are counting on the bank AFO route. The IBPS AFO age limit was 20–30 years in the 2025 notice.

Often confused

B.Sc Agriculture vs B.Sc Horticulture: which should I take?
Both are four-year degrees run by the same Maharashtra universities and filled through the same CAP. Horticulture goes deeper into fruits, vegetables, flowers and plantation crops. Both qualify for IBPS AFO. If a Maharashtra Krishi Adhikari post is your goal, read the MPSC notice first: recent guides list B.Sc Agriculture as the qualifying degree.
B.Sc Agriculture vs B.Tech Agricultural Engineering?
B.Tech Agricultural Engineering is the PCM degree about farm machinery, irrigation and processing; in Maharashtra it is the one agriculture faculty that does not accept NEET scores. In 2023, B.Tech students at all four state universities protested that MPSC’s February 2022 syllabus favours B.Sc Agriculture for officer posts. IBPS AFO accepts both.
