How do you get into B.Sc Nursing in 2026–27?
There is no single national nursing entrance. Which exam you write depends on the college.
AIIMS runs its own computer-based B.Sc (Hons) Nursing exam. For 2026, registration opened on 25 March and the exam was held in late June (sources give 27 or 28 June). AIIMS asks for 55% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English (50% for SC/ST) and a minimum age of 17 on 31 December 2026. AIIMS New Delhi admits only women; some other AIIMS admit men.
NEET-UG is used by the Military Nursing Service (MNS) and by central institutes such as JIPMER and BHU. MNS 2026 offered about 220 seats in Armed Forces nursing colleges, for women only, born between 1 October 2001 and 30 September 2009. Selection used the NEET-UG 2026 score, then a Test of General Intelligence and General English, a psychological test, an interview and a medical exam. Forms ran from 20 to 31 July 2026. Graduates are commissioned into the MNS. JIPMER has 94 B.Sc Nursing seats, 9 of them for men.
In Maharashtra, B.Sc Nursing seats go through the MH B.Sc Nursing CET, a separate exam from MHT-CET, run by the State CET Cell. In 2026 forms opened on 24 January and the computer-based exam was held on 6–7 May. CAP registration opened on 26 August 2026, and only candidates who qualified the MH Nursing CET could take part. ANM and GNM seats go through a separate MH-Nursing CAP.
Universities following Indian Nursing Council rules set the floor: Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, at least 45% aggregate in PCB (40% for SC/ST/OBC), and age 17 on or before 31 December of the admission year. Current admissions follow INC’s revised B.Sc Nursing regulations of 2020, notified on 5 July 2021.

B.Sc Nursing fees: AIIMS and government vs private colleges
Government seats cost a small part of private fees. In Maharashtra, private nursing college fees are fixed each year by the Fee Regulating Authority (FRA).

How do you become an AIIMS Nursing Officer after B.Sc Nursing?
Central hospitals recruit through NORCET, conducted by AIIMS New Delhi. NORCET-11 (notice dated 24 July 2026) listed 2,218 Nursing Officer posts at Pay Level 7, with forms from 24 July to 13 August 2026. The post count is indicative and can change.
Level 7 starts at a basic of ₹44,900. With DA at 60% from 1 January 2026, basic + DA is ₹71,840 a month, before HRA and transport allowance are added and before pension contribution and tax.
- Age limit: 18–30 years, with relaxations by category.
- B.Sc Nursing holders can apply once registered with a nursing council; no experience needed.
- GNM diploma holders need two years’ experience in a hospital of at least 50 beds first.
Who should not choose B.Sc Nursing
- You are a boy aiming only for AIIMS New Delhi or the Military Nursing Service. AIIMS New Delhi’s B.Sc (Hons) Nursing and MNS B.Sc Nursing admit women only, and JIPMER keeps just 9 of its 94 seats for men.
- You scored below 55% in PCB and English and want AIIMS. AIIMS asks for 55% (50% SC/ST); most other colleges follow the INC floor of 45%.
- You are in Maharashtra and plan to rely on your MHT-CET PCB score. B.Sc Nursing CAP seats need the separate MH B.Sc Nursing CET; miss it and you lose every CAP seat, including government colleges.
- You will cross 30 soon after graduating and want an AIIMS Nursing Officer post. NORCET’s age limit is 18–30.
- You want MNS but fall outside its age band. For 2026 you had to be born between 1 October 2001 and 30 September 2009.
Often confused
- B.Sc Nursing vs GNM: does the diploma hold you back?
- For AIIMS NORCET, a B.Sc Nursing holder can apply right after registration, but a GNM holder needs two years’ experience in a 50-bed hospital first. Both enter at the same Level 7 pay. GNM holders can upgrade later through Post-Basic B.Sc Nursing; AIIMS holds a separate Post-Basic entrance. In Maharashtra, GNM seats are filled through a different CAP from B.Sc seats.
- MH B.Sc Nursing CET vs MHT-CET PCB: which do I need?
- Both are run by Maharashtra’s State CET Cell, but they are different exams. MHT-CET PCB (21–26 April and 10–11 May in 2026) is used for courses such as agriculture. Nursing seats need the MH B.Sc Nursing CET (6–7 May in 2026). Register for both if you want both options.
- AIIMS B.Sc Nursing vs NEET-based nursing seats
- AIIMS uses its own B.Sc (Hons) Nursing exam, not NEET. MNS, JIPMER and BHU use NEET-UG scores. A good NEET score does not get you an AIIMS nursing seat, and the AIIMS form is separate (it opened on 25 March in 2026).

Hospital shift work is real and rotating — Sundays, nights, festivals. Emotional load from patient care and family interactions. Corporate hospitals are target-driven; government postings are stable but bureaucratic.
