NCHM JEE 2026: dates, paper pattern and who can apply
NTA runs NCHM JEE for the B.Sc Hospitality and Hotel Administration (B.Sc HHA) seats that NCHMCT fills at IHMs. In 2026, registration was extended to 1 April, the computer-based test ran on 25 April from 11 am to 1 pm, and results came on 22 May. Round 1 choice filling ran from 1 to 4 June.
The 2026 paper was cut to 120 questions in 2 hours, from 200 questions in 3 hours. English has 45 questions, Aptitude for Service Sector 30, and reasoning, numerical ability and general knowledge 15 each. A right answer earns 4 marks; a wrong one costs 1.
- There is no upper age limit for NCHM JEE.
- 2026 form fee: ₹1,000 for General and OBC, ₹700 for EWS and ₹450 for SC, ST and PwD.
- NTA had not announced NCHM JEE 2027 by 15 October 2026.
Hotel management fees in 2026: central IHM vs private
NCHMCT sets one fee schedule for its affiliated IHMs. Over the 3-year B.Sc HHA that comes to about ₹3.38 lakh before hostel. The first year at WGSHA Manipal alone costs ₹4.3 lakh.

Hotel management salary: trainee, 5 years and 10 years
Most first jobs are trainee posts paid by the month. Of 101 IHM Ahmedabad students placed in 2025, 91 joined as management trainees. Pay rises slowly after that.

Who should not choose Hotel Management
- Students who must support family from the first salary: Taj (guest service associate) and Fairfield by Marriott (management trainee) offered ₹15,000 a month in one 2023–24 placement list.
- Families taking a loan for a private BHM: one year at WGSHA Manipal costs ₹4.3 lakh (2026), more than three years of NCHMCT fees.
- Students over 25 who want a 1.5-year NCHMCT diploma: NCHMCT’s 2026 brochure caps the age at 25 on 1 July, though IHM Chandigarh says no age bar.
- Graduates who want a permanent government job: IRCTC’s 2025 Hospitality Monitor posts were 2-year contracts, open only up to age 28.
- Anyone asked to pay an agent for a cruise job. Cruise crew are seafarers, and DG Shipping’s November 2025 advisory to seafarers says never pay for placement or trust offers on WhatsApp or social media.

- B.Sc HHA vs BHM: which hotel degree should I take?
- B.Sc HHA is NCHMCT’s six-semester course at IHMs, entered through NCHM JEE. JNU awards the degree, and an optional fourth year gives an Honours degree under NEP 2020. BHM is awarded by individual universities; at Manipal (WGSHA) it runs 4 years.
- IHM degree vs 1.5-year IHM diploma: what is the difference?
- NCHMCT’s Diploma in Food Production takes 1.5 years and needs Class 12 with English and 50% marks. IHM Chandigarh fills it on Class 12 merit, without NCHM JEE (2026–27). It is a kitchen course; the B.Sc HHA covers every hotel department.
- Hotel management vs culinary arts: what is the difference?
- Culinary arts is kitchen-only. The Indian Culinary Institute (Tirupati and Noida) runs a 3-year BBA in Culinary Arts with its own entrance test, not NCHM JEE. A B.Sc HHA also teaches cooking, but alongside front office, housekeeping and service.

Hospitality work is shift-driven and demanding — early morning F&B prep, late-night front office, weekend / holiday work (peak business times). Customer-facing pressure constant. Standing for 8–10 hours, uniform compliance, grooming standards. Limited time for personal life in initial years.
Work culture
Highly hierarchical — strict supervisor → manager → GM chain. Customer service excellence is core culture. Late nights, festival / wedding seasons are peak workload. Cruise ship work is intense (10-12 month contracts at sea, 2 months off). QSR is target-driven.

High at the top IHMs, not for a seat overall: NCHM JEE 2024 had 12,738 registrations and 8,862 test-takers, and the 2026 counselling offered 8,621 seats in 80 institutes. The best ranks go to IHM Pusa, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Oberoi’s OCLD takes a small batch each year.
